Tom took a trip on “the peasant wagon”, from Witton, to erm, Witton. And concludes.
“If you ever find yourself with nothing to do, get on a bus, a train, in your car, and head somewhere you’ve never been before – even if somewhere is nowhere in particular.”

“Where shops appear they don’t seem to be planned, the ‘party shop’ in Stirchley on the Pershore Road seems to whimper “celebration” rather than shout. It’s falling into itself, does it open? I don’t know. It has competition, the area thrives on the vibe of balloons and peculiarly dull glitter. Even the charity shops, the copy shops, the functional shops hide a stash of party poppers beneath the counter. In the pubs it’s perpetually New Year.”

“started realising that maybe Edgbaston wasn’t that bad after all. But did it really need me to sit on the 11c bus for the full lap to see that?”

Artist Alicja Rogalska did a circuit with her fisheye lens. She’s currently working on a research project — Transitions — commissioned by Longhouse that concerns the possibilities for creating and disseminating art in a public transport context. You can help by taking a survey.
Some photos are of on the bus:
And as the doom gathered she took some great distorted shots out of the window:

“There was so much to look at, that you could almost pick a different ‘theme’ to document on each circuit, such as architecture, shops, housing, parks/green spaces, roads (signs/markings/road furniture), grafitti/tagging etc etc. I suppose I ended up tweeting a bit of everything. When taking photos, it was impossible to take them while the bus was moving, so I was limited to when the bus was stopped at bus stops/juncions/traffic. I’m actually quite tempted to drive a circuit of the route, so that I could stop and take a photo or make a note of everything that I find interesting, in my own time.”
